STICK SAVE!!!

Let's cover today's action after the futures tanked last nite in Asia. ...... Okay......we're done......next. As Goober Pyle's famous brother, Gomer once said, "surprise, surprise, surprise".....  and I'll end it with my new pet phrase.......move along now, nothing to see here.

Okay my fellow Pavlovian dogs.......next on the agenda is your conditioned stimulus training as a miner trader. Beatdown ....beatdown.....beatdown some more...........that is what you are supposed to get..... at least if you THINK this is a part of the market that is your safe trade in a world gone mad. I am a little surprised by some of the outrage expressed by veterans in this trade like Jim Sinclair, but I guess even the greatest grow tired of the game after so many years. On the other hand.....for some unknown reason....perhaps it was Joe's warning....this has not been a surprise and the only thing I have now is guessing when the "turn" occurs.........and it WILL.

Now that many of us are fully loaded the day becomes much less complicated. and I have been filling it with more research and more play time. Hope you enjoy this down time.......I know I am and want to thank all of those that have made it possible..gl.

  5. FYI - Costco advertising supplies...
    http://www.costco.com/service/Featurepage.aspx?productno=11761445&cm_mmc=BCEmail_740-_-Hero-_-1-_-MarketingItemName

The one year supply seems to be one of the few not on sale. It usually pops up once a year at $200 off. I got a 7200W generator after being out of power with the fall storm for 5 days. Was cheap at Costco ($700) but the more I think about it, the less appealing gasoline power is to me. Even a few five gallon cans with stabil will last only a few days at best depending on the time of year. And then you have to hope there is gas being sold nearby. Might sell it can go for the NG solution for about $3000 or so. Much quieter, works as long as NG is flowing.

  6. Homer,

I have been pondering a solution to my Heating/Electrical problem for awhile now. The NG generator is probable the best solution, but expensive and will fail if NG cut off. I am considering buying a small gasoline generator with just enough power to power my NG furnance blower/thermostat and then use portable solar generators for general electrical use. But again, the furnace fail if no NG.
It is amazing the problems that come up as you figure out how to get off the grid.

  7. Man it never gets old until it does ;) Love how they smash it down through the $30 floor as soon as Comex opens. Really thought $30 was going to hold, if it doesn't recover by the close I may have to rethink my plan. Without a formal QE type announcement we may not be getting anywhere.

  8. I added to KGC, EGO and SSRI after the 10am washout. I have 5% cash left for more leg down if the take it. If I am wrong, I can live with it. I am not leveraged and young enough to recover. But I do believe that there is alot of buying of the physical behind the scenes. I think today is happening because they are really trying to get everyone one out of this trade and the PMs. I see the endgame, and the shiny stuff will win out......

  14. Hey Doc - can also go an even more expensive path, get a multi-fuel, at least NG and propane, sink a tank in the back yard if there's not one there now (given room), then should be even more prepared. I've never really looked at solar. I assume a string of batteries is part of that solution and I never liked that idea. I think the tech just isn't there yet (should have been but we love our fossils).

  15. combination of gas generator and solar with battery storage is the best I've found.....but youre lookin at 75K

  21. Kli,

one question, why are the miners trading at there current levels when gold is still alot higher than it was 3 years ago. hate to imagine what prices the miners will be at if gold trades to $1000

  23. Honest,

I have already read about those. Supposedly, it is possible to make your own for about $300.00 by simply buying the individual components and assembling it yourself. I am going to try it and see just what the device can do. Need to find the time.

    Homer,

How big a tank do you think I would need to bury?? Can't wait to tell my wife.

Note: For some reason, I cannot respond under the comment that you made. I am not using Google Chrome.

    1. Never really looked seriously into it. Was going to definitely look at consumption/cost among the various options.

I figure if I tell my wife the equipment is there for the swimming pool she always wanted, I'd get away with that for about a week.

Friend was going to get this generac 20KW stand-by. Have to see if he got it and how much everything was. Sheet has consumption info...maybe I'll keep the Costco one for giggles/rentals. $50 a day sounds good (its loud).

  25. Whelp my thesis on dodging the HL earnings and hiding out in AUQ totally blew up in my face :) Seasonality does favor us here though. I really wish silver would run up and close above $30 though but that looks like a pipe dream at this point.

  28. Wow HL made a nice run. Lucky Friday is on schedule to be reopened in early 2013... Not really news but I guess it spooked some shorts that maybe thought they were lying? Ah well. I guess it going green in the middle of this bloodbath was your cue to go long.

    1. Homer,

      Thanks!
My next door neighbor put in a Generac NG generator many years ago. I don't know how much, but I know they are over 5k. The point is, the power failures in my area have been very brief--longest only about 12 hours, and sometimes over a whole year with no failure. So, other than "peace of mind", I don't think he has gotten his money out of it and I'm not sure what the life span of the unit is.
It's like Tom mentioned yesterday, how much do you really prepare?
I'll come up with something practical eventually.

    2. Hey Doc - I really couldn't agree more. I think my little genset is actually okay for now. Need a shed though in case I ever actually need to run it. Though when my neighors heard it, they said don't worry about it,we'll be in your house anyway.

I have two nice size UPS sets for my modem/router, last me hours once my desktops and raid server come down, our main "work machines"are laptops. Also have lots of little 8AH batteries I keep around for the charging of cells.

Please post if you come up with something DIY for the solar battery, that would be cool.
