SOMETHING'S NOT RIGHT HERE

Sometime's there is a sense that something is wrong and sometime its right out there in front of you and you still don't see it. This site and many others give you opinion AND facts that allow you to see just how critically important it is to hone your own skills in evaluating the economy that is being monetized to give you an impression that "things are normal" and we are recovering. Its analogous to walking down Market street in San Francisco with all the homeless on the sidewalks and while passing a lady with no teeth and two full bags of clothes in tow....."how's your day?"  Maybe you're just tone deaf.....maybe you're oblivious to your environment.......maybe you just don't care about anything other than yourself.......but its "no matter" to you......it doesn't directly effect you, therefore YOU don't need to concern yourself. Here is an excerpt from a big money manager that is beginning to question our current "recovery".

"The recent trading environment has felt something like walking into a place and having a sense that something is wrong and dangerous but not knowing exactly what will happen or when." Paul Singer isn't a "gold bug". He doesn't live in bunker. He's a realist and he manages a very large amount of money for people and he knows the math just doesn't work out for us.

Welcome to the matrix. Welcome to the Land of Oz. Maybe Paul Singer reads "doom and gloom" blogs. Maybe he is just one of those self-hating "glass half full" guys that likes to frighten people. There's no reason to bring up statistics for some people when they have both hands over their ears and a chanting nananananananana.

If they have a three car garage and a Beemer, then things really can't be that bad. They don't work three part time jobs and their wife two......to make ends meet for two kids.....while balancing a mortgage on a house that's 150K underwater on its purchase price. No....for them life is good and for everyone else......"you're on your own". After all, if you can convince yourself the matrix is reality then everything else makes perfect sense.

You have no idea of the atrocities this game has committed (Do they Red?) and I am not referring to economic atrocities and you will always be lost in the matrix.......THAT is the game.

  3. So Tom, you're saying it's my (other people like me) fault that this country is f'ked? What have I done, exactly, to get the blame, and further, what exactly am I supposed to do to "fix" it? I'll tell you what I did, I worked my butt off to get a STEM degree in college, and I've been fortunate enough to have a stable, high paying job in my chosen field since graduation. I continue to work my tail off because the professional world is competitive and no one has handed me anything. I have zero sympathy for the current generation of young people who have graduated with their useless liberal arts degrees and tens of thousands of $$ in debt, and now cannot find a job. Who told them to get in on the college education scam and major in Latin American Studies?

Furthermore, I saved 25% for a down payment before I bought my modest home and have been paying it off religiously. I'm not the one who bought a $700k home with no money down and an interest only mortgage. I also didn't use my home as an ATM and take out HELOC after HELOC to buy cars, big screen TVs and take fancy vacations. I didn't take out an 84 month auto loan and buy a 70k Escalade, and then have it re-repossessed because I couldn't afford the payments after losing my job. My car is 7 years old and paid for and I hope to drive it another 7 years. I'm not some lazy parasite who's trying to get in on the welfare gravy train and try to game this rotten system. So bottom line, you're barking up the wrong tree. This country would be in a hell of a lot better shape if there were more people like me, so don't give me that bullshit again.

You guys make it sound like all we have are millions of good people who have been screwed over and cheated thru no fault of their own. The fact is, there are millions of lazy bums who have never done an honest day's work and are part of an entitlement/welfare generation who are sucking the country dry, along with their bankster counterparts at the top. I'm sure there are decent, hard-working people in this mix who have fallen on hard times and I wish the best of luck to them. I have zero sympathy for everyone else, so fuk 'em is what I say.

And until this whole thing blows up, which I believe is years away, I intend to keep living exactly the same way, instead of getting caught in all this doom and gloom nonsense.

    1. good post bud........seriously!....I don't agree with a lot of it and it verifies a lot of what I suspected were your thoughts on this country. You are not wrong on all counts however........and that is we do bear much responsibility for what is wrong.......ALL of us.......not just US but YOU too bud.......many of US can see that ...however YOU do not see your responsibility........"I got mine...now you get yours".........hehehehehe.......very sad.....but glad you stated it.

    2. BTW bud....part of my current duties involve teaching STEM post doctoral graduates......its definitely sad to see their deficiencies in the liberal arts......it does not bode well for a democracy my friend........our educations do not end with math and science......even though they were my majors..... Of course narrowing one's vision of life and history does provide some comfort for certain individuals..........

    3. Bud,

Yup and as you are now I once was. I don't fault you for your actions they appear to be similar to mine although I didn't go to college but I did quite well early on, was making six figures before I hit 25 years, company paid everything life was great as a matter of fact and back then I failed to see what was going on around me then as you do today. That was back in the eighties were the seeds of today were planted and have since taken root. Since then not everything has gone smooth but that's life, you know ups and downs and honestly I don't think I would change a thing. My point is you are blind to your surroundings. As you pointed out, you have yours and that's fine, you earned it but you fail see whats going on around you and in your own words admit to it.

"You guys make it sound like all we have are millions of good people who have been screwed over and cheated thru no fault of their own. The fact is, there are millions of lazy bums who have never done an honest day's work and are part of an entitlement/welfare generation who are sucking the country dry, along with their bankster counterparts at the top. You see Bud there are far more decent people than you realize that are getting screwed by FED and their Banker buddies that have crushed our currency and our employment base. They have set the stage for our their kids to purposefully get dumbed down in our primary and secondary education system, they set up the system of debt for "Student Loans". What you are failing to see is that our current situation we find ourselves in has been done by design and far too many have not had a choice.........

What can you do about it, that's up to you but I suggest trying a little "Awareness" and if you have some spare time go and visit a few foods pantries in your area and see all of the lazy bums looking for a hand out, you might even get surprised to see some of you neighbors.

You know it's this statement is what I was referring to when I said our "Country we are Fk'ed"

"I have zero sympathy for everyone else, so fuk 'em is what I say."

With that said I wonder are you in the Banking System or Washington DC?

    4. Bud shows his ignorance of reality one more time. Millions of those "bums" are people that worked hard, paid for their children's education while looking after elderly parents, paid off a mortgage and managed to save $200k in retirement accounts. They thought those accounts would generate $10-12k a year to supplement their retirement. Instead, with the FED holding interest rates near zero they are getting $2-3k a year on those savings (if lucky).

And we are supposed to disrespect these millions and admire Bud? Given Bud's attitude if there is a hell Bud has a modest home (all paid for) there.

  5. Budfox,

I have been on your side as to how the overall markets are behaving and may continue to behave.

But, I will have to "ditto" what Kli is referring to above. If you look at your first sentence: "you're saying it's my FAULT that this country...". Instead think or substitute "is it my RESPONSIBILITY that this country...".

For me, I have come to realize that it is my responsibility and my failure to act sooner does put some of the blame on me.

What can we do? At least we can become aware and try to realize as best we can the "Big picture". I have had a ringside seat and watched Heart disease, Diabetes, Obesity, etc. skyrocket in our nation. I have watched my patients grow sicker despite the money that is being spent. Do I bear some responsibility?? Of course I do.

Clearly Budfox, you see the problems and have some concern of the Doom that is likely coming. Otherwise you wouldn't be here. You have leadership skills. Use them. Be a mentor to our young people.

  8. San Francisco has been bum central for at least 15 years. I was there a couple years ago with my folks. A deranged looking bum walked up to my mother in Chinatown and said quite frankly, "This city pays me to be a bum." As soon as we were out of earshot range, I told her "At least he's honest." :)

That place is so far left wing that it probably pays around $70 grand a year to be homeless.

  11. Don't worry Inlet, I'm sure your own place in hell is secure. As I said before, keep up the good work.

Now, back on topic. You may all be wondering, what's with my cynical, "I got mine, fuk everyone else" attitude. It didn't happen overnight, in fact, there was a time when I was too much of a giving person, almost to a fault. I still donate time and money to various local charities if I know absolutely for sure the help will go to the right place. I'm basically fatigued from the astounding amounts of ignorance I've encountered over the years. I'm talking about friends, relatives, co-workers, acquaintances, and others whose heads are burried deep in sand and they are not open to being made aware of certain things. I used to open these sheep with some mild topics whenever I'd get the chance, but 5 minutes into the conversation, it would become clear they were past the point of no return. Their primary concern was (and still is) the NFL, their fantasy football teams, some TV shows I've never heard of, and other drivel that makes my head hurt. How can you try to help and mentor people who can't (or don't) want to be helped? It's because of these brainwashed, apathatic masses that this country is fuk'd. Once I realized I can't get thru these folks, I adopted my new carefree attitude. Fuk 'em, I'll just live for myself and family, life is too damn short to worry about all this other stuff. Things should be OK for a few more years, so life goes on. I'll think some more about what my responsibility in all this mess is, and try to do something about it, but I can't think of anything at the moment.

    1. good post....no easy answer here budfox but at least your post is more introspective. Unfortunately its also full of contradictions. You believe (for whatever reason) they can hold this together for a few more years BUT its still going to go to hell in a handbasket...............you could be right......but you don't own any physical gold or silver. If they slip the rug out from under you a little early WHERE will you be since you've placed your trust they will perpetuate the system. Most reasonable people would take precautions averaging down here in gold OR silver as a safety hedge.......yet you maintain a blatant disdain for this measure...basically throwing your belief they'll give you a cheap entry point.....an "all or none" proposition......as far as your moral proposition regarding your previous efforts to inform, very understandable but it might be your approach. Most people respond after simple statements are made that ring true and are verified with the passage of time....THEN they will often come to ask you further questions WHICH must never be prefaced with "i told you so"......give them links NOT opinions......give them wesites to follow.....write them down to google themselves and challenge them to verify them.......also you must understand that your message for many people is NOT easily welcomed but must be heard......don't expect accolades and learn to remain calm and laugh at yourself in front of them.......it works......then gently give them a message......they'll frequently quietly respond and actually believe it was their idea....and as far as your attitude.....one can use their own definition of "soul"......but paraphrasing.....i will never let these bastards take my soul......never....

    2. Bud,

I share your frustration at times but I look at things from a different perspective. If your sincere here is a little guidance when you speak to folks about whats going on around them. I have a feeling based on the way you post you may be getting in the way of the message but that's an easy fix, if of course you wish to continue to help others.

The above link is how to talk to an alcoholic but its all the same, when floating down the river of denial people always react the same. The key is planting seeds of knowledge as Kli has pointed out above and hope they grow, some will, some won't and whether they do or don't is out of your control just like in nature when planting a veggie garden.

The key is you planted them!!

  12. Almost 100% sure Bud I have been where you never have. I have looked death in the face and accepted it 3 different times last spring and summer, and was Ok with the fact I may not make it. All your BS means nothing to me in compared to that. Truth is I never thought I would live through the summer of 2012.

Your house, money, car and supposed security mean nothing. Unlike some here I am not a huge devotee of PMs. Helping someone, making someone smile or laugh is worth more than money in a retirement account because I guarantee that gold, money or anything you have cannot save you when it is your time. Stuff may make life a little easier, but then I grew up with very little so it does not take a lot for me to be happy. People like you who are focused on "stuff" are screwed to the max. Me, I got more stuff than I need (guess that is lucky for my daughter).

The equities market is a game and in the long run how well you do in the game doesn't matter (you will be dead, as will Warren Buffet, George Soros, et al), but if you want to play might as well try to play well and it does not matter long, short or both.

  13. These conversations are getting grim, can we get back to discussing the depression our economy is in and how with each day we’re sinking deeper into the abyss!? Hahaha!

I stared death in the face a few times when I was a boy. The mean streets of inner city U.S.A. have got nothing on Beirut in the early 80s…we weren’t just dodging bullets, it was shelling from tanks. It’s interesting hearing that it made you guys appreciate the important things in life, as it should. I think it made me afraid to die…and probably caused my OCD. I guess it also put a chip on my shoulder, or is that just the shrapnel?

I want to add my $0.02 on spreading awareness to the peeps. Kli is partly responsible for unplugging me and for that I’m eternally grateful. I always felt we were heading down the wrong way of a one way train tunnel, but I just didn’t understand the extent of it. However, not everyone can be awakened, and perhaps more importantly, not everyone should be. Sometimes being half-aware is more dangerous than being completely oblivious. I’ve seen people who only partially understand the system make terrible mistakes in the market. I’ve seen others become depressed as they aren’t able to compartmentalize what they’ve learned. Others just don’t have the intellectual capacity to understand what’s taking place...and of course many others just don’t want to. They’d prefer to be lost in the illusion, and many are happy in that state, god bless ‘em. I agree though, everyone needs to do their part to help others, and I do, but sometimes it just feels like a losing proposition, other times it even feels like a Sisyphean task. But we should do what we can, no excuses! So with that, I’ll get back to watching football and enjoying a delicious slice of pizza (olive & ham if anyone is interested)…I just hope the NFL has solar powered equipment to run these games…just in case.

I used to work with a gentleman that grew up in Beirut, real sweetheart, we worked in retail and his favorite line when customers or employees would complain or b-itch about things was "What do you know" and as he walked away would finish with "Stupid Americans" and based on his stories he was right, living here in America we really don't know much and are an ungrateful bunch! We used to go out a get drunk on Arak and eat that raw liver dish, took a bit of getting used to but the rest of the food was great, good times,,,,,

    http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2013-10-31/guest-post-dont-worry-%E2%80%93-government-says-inflation-you-see-just-your-imagination

"If you believe that there is high inflation in the United States, you are just imagining things. That is the message that the U.S. government and the Federal Reserve would have us to believe. You might have noticed that the government announced on Wednesday that the cost of living increase for Social Security beneficiaries will only be 1.5 percent next year. This is one of the smallest cost of living increases that we have ever seen. The federal government is able to get away with this because the official numbers say that there is hardly any inflation in the U.S. right now."

"Of course anyone that shops for groceries or that pays bills regularly knows what a load of nonsense the official inflation rate is. The U.S. government has changed the way that inflation is calculated numerous times since 1978, and each time it has been changed the goal has been to make inflation appear to be even lower. According to John Williams of shadowstats.com, if the inflation rate was still calculated the same way that it was back when Jimmy Carter was president, the official rate of inflation would be somewhere between 8 and 10 percent today. But if the mainstream news actually reported such a number, everyone would be screaming and yelling about getting inflation under control. Instead, the super low number that gets put out to the public makes it look like the Federal Reserve has plenty of room to do even more reckless money printing. It is a giant scam, but most Americans are falling for it."

    6. There is a reason why they have only talked about tapering but haven't pulled the trigger. That reason is the same reason why they will never taper. It would tank the markets and expose the fact that QE is holding everything together and they don't want that to be exposed to the sheep. Therefore, they will continue to jawbone and then increase QE "temporarily" to help the 'recovery' gain traction.

      Of course "temporarily" means permanently.

  35. Reading that article makes me very angry, especially the entitlement mentality. A single mother of 2? Where's the father? Why do her daughters deserve fresh fruits and vegetables, and meat, on tax-payers dime? It's supposed to be supplementary, in other words, help you get thru the rough times, but for most of these people, it has become their primary source. Over $600 month for a family of 4 and they claim hardship because of a $36 reduction? Still more than enough to feed a family. For the truly poor, old, and disabled, the program is a necessity and we should help those people. All these other young, able-bodied lazy bums get no sympathy from me.

  36. They have no humility, no doubts, and no empathy. Whatever life or luck or others may have helped them to achieve, they feel that they deserve it all, and more. They have worked for everything they have, whereas others who have suffered setbacks and misfortune simply have made bad choices or been lazy. And if others have been cheated and abused, then they deserve it for being stupid.

  37. Personality Disorders for $ 500....

    What is Narcissism!

    Bud,

You continue to reinforce my asserition that as a Country with folks like you with your attitude is why we are fked as a nation.

Do you believe in karma? If I were you I would do some reading, life or nature if you will, has a funny way of giving people like you a good dose of humility and your in dire need of some, for your sake I hope nature is kind to you.......

  38. Did you read the comments in that article? The great majority of them seem to agree with my point of view. I think the givers are sick and tired of supporting what has essentially become a permanent parasite underclass. Once the takers outnumber the givers (may have happened already), it will only accelerate this country's descent into third world status. I'm somewhat surprised to see such strong levels of support amongst the readers of this blog for the welfare state. Let me ask you this, take a look at the various government programs, welfare, food stamps, housing, SS disability, etc. What percentage of the people who are on these programs truly deserve it? In other words, if the assistance stopped, they wound literally die within a few days. Give me a number.

And did you see the story about the firm hired (and paid tens of millions of dollars) to fix the Obamacare website problems? It's the same firm who built the damn thing in the first place. Sounds like a story from the Onion, but it's real. The husband/wife team who are executives of the firm are close friends and donors of Obama. We're f'ked alright, because of morons who keep electing the same corrupt bums into office over and over. People deserve the government they get.

    1. also bud I think this opinion is VERY common within our society and is part of the long term plan of divide and conquer.......does that mean that ALL of your concerns and point of view are wrong? no.......but they can use these issues to create societal weakness by combining half truths to further chaos and their real agenda.......which is to destroy the very values that created and independent and free people.

    3. I did read the comments at your suggestion and for the most part it’s as advertised, us vs them, the producers vs the takers, yet now where in the discussion did I find any commentary as to WHY there are so many “takers”. Have we really become a nation of dead beats as you say or is it due to the severe structural problems in our Nation’s economy? Could it be the brand of prosperity that you see all around you that has created the conundrum we find ourselves in? How is it that we can be a “Consumer” based economy with no jobs? How is it and WHY have we have allowed our manufacturing base to be “Offshored” for the profit of a few at the demise of the many. Why is it that fifty years ago one could raise a family with a single income and now it takes three incomes to achieve the same? Why is it that it is near to impossible for high school students to find summer jobs? The issue is lack of opportunity, meaningful opportunity.

How is it we have allowed our educational system to be co-opted and allow it to systematically dumb down our population? How is it that our kids are pushed into the secondary school systems and told that it is their only means of finding meaningful opportunities and yet the majority is left with empty promises and half a life time of debt service?

How is it we can spend $711 Billion dollars in 2011 on the Military, yet we can’t seem to straighten ourselves out here?

The problem Bud is the system, it’s not the people on the bottom that is the problem, it’s the people that set up the system that is the true cause of society’s ills. Now I will agree with you there is a percentage that game the system and no matter what due to greed there always will be but beyond that the majority of the “taker’s” would much prefer to pay their own way. Seriously go to a few food pantries and talk to folks, again you might be surprised.

Now as for the TRUE gamers of the system, The REAL gamers sit at the top and I’m not talking about the dipchits in DC, they are the midlevel gamers, they just help create the environment where the rest of the population has to endure hardship. You pointed it out with perfection with your “Who gets to fix the “Computer Software Glitches”” example. The REAL gamers have set up the system for their own benefit and divide us purposefully, Dem vs Rep, Black vs White, Male vs Female, Gay vs Straight, Christian vs Atheist ect… while they rob us blind.

What you confuse as support for the welfare state is really compassion for others. If you take the time to understand what’s going on around and who is truly pulling the strings, you will find none of us truly have a choice but some are better off than others.

Find some compassion and humility Bud before Karma finds it for you.......

      Karma, Bud, Karma…… it’s a b-itch!

    1. Bud seems to think our support of people who are in difficult situations is support of a corrupt system. Let's say I have a nephew addicted to prescription meds and he needed a place to stay - would I offer him a place? No, I wouldn't - too many meds around my home because of my medical needs. Would I give him money to rent a place? No, he would just spend it on drugs and I WOULD never enable him. I would help pay for treatment....

That is the problem we face Bud - how to help people without enabling them and the people that pull the levers of power are clueless as to how to do this.
